At least give yourself a chance

Dear reader, at the risk of coming across as rude or arrogant, I'd like to plead with you: At least give yourself a chance!

This plea is applicable to every single endeavor in which you partake in life. It is not in the name of achievement or success that I make this plea, but in the name of potential.

Isn't it a shame to see a flower that does not blossom, potential unfulfilled, a life unable to flourish?

Let me explain what I'm trying to get at. Back in high school there was a guy who was trying to be a professional gaming YouTuber. He recorded his gaming sessions with subpar commentary and uploaded them on YouTube without editing. No decent thumbnails or titles either.

Fast forward more than 10 years later and he's still doing the same thing. He has no real following to speak of, livestreams to 1 or 2 viewers and is generally still lazy, unentertaining and inconsiderate of the audience as a rule.

Now, you can call me a hater or admire the consistency and passion of this guy who is still at it after all those years. But can't we also see the waste?

How can you do something for more than a decade and barely improve in any aspect?

In my experience, growth is something that occurs naturally when you truly care for something and you allow yourself to grow.

I don't know this guy personally so I cannot ascertain what the real, fundamental reasons for his stagnation are. But is he actually giving himself a chance? Or is there a part of him that is afraid to find out what would happen if he actually tried, for once, to give it his all and improve at content creation?

I'm no beacon of success and accomplishment either but I see this everywhere. On Bear, I like to browse recent posts and use the random function. Every now and then, I stumble upon a real hidden gem, usually a well-written, heartfelt post that likely never reaches more than five readers because the author gave the post a terrible title.

You don't have to resort to cheap clickbait, but at least make it enticing! If you're afraid that people might read or see your work, why post it in the first place?

There, my plea which has definitely become a rant is over. Don't be afraid of failure and don't be afraid of success. Whatever it is that you decide to do in life, at least give yourself a chance!
